Sadly, not every company has opened up to allow Bitcoin or Altcoins to be a payment method. It makes sense, really. If they did, they would need to constantly put up with the price volatility, and that means constantly changing their prices to suit. There are some industries where Bitcoin works well (e.g. gambling), but it really does not work well in retail. Thankfully, there are ways in which you can get around this. Enter gift cards.

Why Buy Digital Gift Cards Using Bitcoin or Crypto?

The problem (as mentioned already) is that the bulk of online companies is not going to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. Some of them do, and more and more companies are opening up to the idea of using cryptocurrency as a payment method, but it is still not as widespread as you may think.

This means that if you do want to buy something from them and you have Bitcoin handy, you are going to be in a bit of a pickle. Thankfully, there are sites online which allow you to buy gift cards using your bitcoin. This means that you can buy your gift card for a certain value, get a code, and then use this on the online site. Obviously, not every major online store is going to have gift cards, but most of the ones you want to buy at will do. The gift card will be in the currency that you choose.

How Do You Buy Gift Cards Using Bitcoin?

The same way you buy anything else using Bitcoin. Obviously, it is all going to start with a trustworthy site. You probably don’t need us to tell you this, but there are a lot of online sites that are scams, and the gift card industry is a great place for these scams to actually happen.

If you want to do the research yourself, then we suggest that you read reviews online or just get a general feel for how the website works. You will likely be able to tell it is a scam simply by doing that, as most of these sites are not that sophisticated.

You will need to make sure that the site is selling the type of gift card that you want and in the currency that you want. It is likely that they will have several different values of gift cards, with the current price in Bitcoin.

It is worth noting that it is never going to be a straight conversion. This is because the company selling the gift card is likely going to want to make a bit of profit on the sale, plus they want to cover the costs they have in actually dealing with the running of their website, sourcing the gift card etc. However, it should be fairly close to the value.

Once you have selected your gift card, it is going to be like any other Bitcoin transaction. You will check out on the site in the same way as any other Bitcoin/Crypto transaction. This is going to be dependent on the payment processor that the online company uses. We won’t go into this too much, but everything should be fairly self-explanatory.

Once the transaction is complete, which is only going to take a few minutes in most cases, you will be given your gift card code. It will likely be displayed on the website where you have just made your purchase, but in rare cases, it may be emailed to you (or sometimes both).

You can then spend your gift card voucher. Go to the site that you bought your gift card for, fill up your basket, go to the checkout, and there will be somewhere that you can type in your gift card code (read the help guide for the site if you can’t find it). Once that is done, just wait for your goods to ship to your home!
