The Renault automotive group has announced the transformation of its plant located in the French town of Flins to create Re-Factory, the first European circular economy factory dedicated to mobility.

As Renault has indicated, this project, which is part of the group’s transformation strategy, will allow the company to benefit from a growing source of value and, at the same time, reaffirm its industrial presence in France.

Thus, Re-Factory will group the renovation activities of its Choisy-le-Roi plant, so Renault is planning support and training measures for the employees of Flins and Choisy-Le-Roi to develop their skills. The brand expects some 3,000 people to work at the facilities by 2030 .

“This announcement is the result of important work by both the Renault teams and constructive consultations with our partners. Re-Factory is a new life for Renault, its employees and for the dynamism of the entire region. This project builds on our pioneering commitment to the circular economy, in our values, in our know-how, and fully fulfills our ambition to positively transform our industry, “said Jean-Dominique Senard, Chairman of the Renault Group Board of Directors.

Four poles of activity
Deployed between 2021 and 2024, Re-Factory will be based on a wide network of multisectoral partners and will be structured around four poles of activity, whose experience will allow to monitor the entire useful life of the vehicle, acting on the main components of the circular economy.

In this sense, Re-Trofit will bring together all the activities that make it possible to extend the useful life of vehicles and their uses, while the Re-Energy pole aims to bring the potential of applications derived from electric batteries and new energies to an industrial scale .

In addition, Re-Cycle will bring together all the group’s activities, contributing to an efficient management of resources and their flows to promote the supply of parts and materials in short cycles and integrate a growing share of recycled or reused materials. Re-Start will promote and develop industrial knowledge , but also to accelerate research and innovation in the circular economy.

“With Re-Factory, Flins will become a European benchmark in terms of the circular economy and will allow the group to respond to the challenges that arise today, and even more tomorrow, to players in mobility and the automotive industry”, The CEO of Renault, Luca de Meo, has claimed.
